OUTLANDER is a Pop/Country-Rock band hailing from the North East of England, and are one of the bands leading the new wave of Country Music in England. Forming in 2015, the band has become one of the most anticipated and talked about acts.
The four guys started their musical and creative relationship 3 years ago, but it wasn’t until 2015 that their musical journey truly started when they formed Outlander. In Outlander, the guys wanted to make country music that was fun and easily accessible, for both the old-school country fans, as well as those into the new wave of country music. Taking cues from American acts such as Sam Hunt, Hunter Hayes, Old Dominion, and Brett Eldredge, the band blends Pop and Rock hooks with Country instrumentation.
A year or so on and the band has enjoyed a meteoric rise, with them winning the coveted title of ‘Horizon Act of the Year 2015’ at the Britis Country Music Awards in October 2015. Needless to say the band are hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winners The Shires! The band received rave reviews from their performances last year being called ‘absolutely superb,’ and have since been hailed as ‘one to watch.’ Following the festivals, the band went into the studio to record their debut EP; at the time the band said ‘originally we were planning on waiting until next year to release any material, but because of the huge demand we are bringing our plans forward.’
2016 was a big year for the band, and what better way to start than playing at the Country 2 Country festival. ‘We cannot wait to play at the C2C! We have followed it for a few years now, and to now be playing there on not one but two dates is a dream come true. We are looking forward to playing songs from our EP, as well as debuting brand new material.’
CHLOE CHADWICK: Originally from Staffordshire and now based in the North East of England, Chloë has been a part of the music scene since her teenage years. She has performed across Europe in locations as diverse as the French Alps and the Mediterranean. She has graced many a stage with only a guitar as her accompaniment, wowing audiences with her vocal ability and song-writing talents. Her unique sound has been captivating crowds across the UK & at major festivals including the ‘C2C’ (Country 2 Country) Music Festival attracting over 30,000 music fans, alongside the likes of ‘The Shires’, ‘Striking Matches’, & ‘Ward Thomas’.
Recording an original track in LA last year working with International & multi award winning producer ‘Chris Garcia’ (Demi Levato, Leona Lewis, Santana, Dido) gave Chloë an insight into world- class music production.
After years performing in and out of bands, across Europe, Chloë found her feet in pop & country music as a singer/songwriter, testing the waters with her new singles ‘Settle Your Heart’ & ‘Feels Like Home’, which are not only lyrically captivating but they also showcase a strong vocal talent and incredible song-writing ability. The melody of her first offering ‘Settle Your Heart’ is infectious and has made an indelible mark on the UK Country Music Scene. The single has been featured on popular websites & radio stations, and was also congratulated for her single reaching No.3 in the UK Country Online Charts competing against the likes of UK and International Country stars. Her music has been picked up from BBC Introducing Radio Newcastle Upon Tyne, BBC Introducing Radio Tees, BBC Hereford & Shropshire, BBC Norfolk and Amazing Radio.
The sound of her self-titled EP, released in 2015, conjures up images of a nostalgic summer that is darkened by the realities of our lives and Chloë’s lyrics & melodies testify to this at every turn. The EP includes her latest single – ‘Feels Like Home’; a clever blend of country-pop that has lit the fuse for the genesis of her forthcoming debut album.
Chloë performed at the 10-year anniversary of ‘The SummerTyne Americana Festival, Gateshead UK, sharing the bill with the likes of living legends ‘Emmylou Harris’, ‘Rodney Crowell’ & ‘Rosanne Cash’!
Chloë’s love of folk music has also highlighted her ability to transcend music genres and 2015 afforded her the privilege of performing a main stage slot at the Beverley Folk Festival in June 2016.
Chloë recently embarked on her first full UK Tour in September 2016, playing some carefully chosen venues throughout the land to celebrate the release of her EP and to also showcase songs from her debut up and coming NEW MUSIC set for release summer 2017. Chloë’s music can be seen as the culmination of over 20 years of song-writing experience, creative experimentation and musical innovation. No matter whether you like country, blues or just well-crafted pop, there is something in her songs to put a smile on the face of the dourest of music aficionados!
2016 has seen Chloë nominated for two prestigious awards, Best UK Female Country Artist and Best UK Act of 2016 at the Country Music Awards.
JAMES GRAY ROBSON & THE LOVELY BURN: Things seem to have come full circle for Darlington alt. Americana duo James Gray Robson & The Lovely Burn. It was twenty six years ago that James and Chris played in their first band together. After a run of cheap demos, lineup changes and playing to numerous empty rooms across the North East, the guys called a halt to their music careers. Although James played drums in various bands over the years, nothing was taken too seriously.
After years of not thinking about playing music again, James thought the only way forward was to learn guitar in a bid to write for himself and begin singing again. The first spark of creativity came when he was asked to write a song for the film ‘Inside Fear’. This song was ‘Six Years’. From then on the songs kept coming. To give the tracks more depth, James had no hesitation in calling Chris. They immediately began rehearsing and writing together; these songs eventually became the basis of their first EP, recorded after just six months. ‘For All It’s Worth’ is a melodious slice of alt. country, taking its cues from the songwriting and sounds of 70’s Laurel Canyon. James’ soaring, emotive vocals and sparse drums, allow space for Chris’ gorgeous, expansive guitar lines.
After playing a handful of local shows in 2015, the guys decided to step up their gigging in 2016. ‘For All It’s Worth’ was released in November 2015; they began 2016 with a headline show at the legendary Troubadour in London. They have gigged relentlessly across the country, from the Whiskey Jar in Manchester to support slots with Big Country, Chris Helme and Ian Prowse plus a first appearance at Stockton Calling; all to rapturous audiences, intrigued by the expansive sound of a two guitar and drums set up.
Being a firm favourite of BBC Radio Tees introducing’s Bob Fischer, the guys have already played two live sessions and had numerous appearances on the introducing show, with tracks being passed on to BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris. May 2016 saw the release of their second EP ‘Rule For You’. Again recorded in just a few weeks at home, ‘Rule For You’, gains more depth both sonically and lyrically, with extra percussion and more of Chris’ warm country blues guitar wrapping itself around James’ soul-filled voice. Their latest single, ‘Hazy Days,’ has just been released.
“James Gray Robson & The Lovely Burn are troubadours inspired by the troubled, but who present brutal perspectives in a beautiful way.” David Saunders, NARC Magazine
